Easy Peach Cobbler
This recipe uses 5 ingredients. Three of which you probably keep on hand all the time, the other two you could EASILY keep on hand in your pantry so you can enjoy homemade peach cobbler any time you want to.
Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler
This recipe is a super simple dump recipe. Simply dump all the ingredients in and then let your dutch oven do all the cooking! You can, of course, throw this in the oven or even the slow cooker if you prefer. But I love this peach cobbler recipe best when made in a dutch oven.
Can I use unripe peaches for cobbler?
Because our fruit often comes from far away, the fruit is often picked before it's peak in order to be shipped to your local grocery store. It is the hope that the fruit will ripen along the way.
But to be honest, more often then not, peaches from the grocery store are simply hard and some never ripen well. It is truly tragic.
So unless you plan to make a trip to Georgia in July and grab the yummies, freshest peaches ever, your peach cobbler can turn out more tart than sweet.
If you want to use fresh peaches, and they aren't quite ripe, you will need to add additional sugar to the recipe to help sweeten it up.
But I find the best way to get around this is actually to just used canned peaches in 100% fruit juice instead. For crisps and cobblers, fresh is always delicious, but canned is better than not fully ripe.
Do you eat peach cobbler hot or cold?
You can eat peach cobbler hot or cold, but I prefer to eat it warm! I love to let it sit for about 10-20 minutes after taking it off of heat and then eat it with a generous helping of Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream or this Ice Cream In A Bag.
By letting the cobbler sit for a few minutes, the middle will continue to thicken and you will end up with a great consistency cobbler.
You can eat it cold too if that is your preference. You can also refrigerate it after it has cooled and eat it cold!
If you made cobbler earlier in the day or week, and you want it warm, simply put a single serving in the microwave for about 30-60 seconds until it is the perfect temperature for you!
Is cobbler supposed to be runny?
The consistency of cobbler will depend largely on the fruit you use to make it. Some fruit, due to the actual fruit, how ripe it is, the season etc, will just naturally produce more juice.
If your cobbler is too runny, letting it cool will often help it thicken up.
You can also use a thickening agent in your cobbler filling to help.
But I prefer to use a fool-proof method, use canned fruits! That way your results will be very consistent from cobbler to cobbler.
How do you make peach cobbler filling?
This recipe is for an EASY peach cobbler which means that we are not using a lot of ingredients in this cobbler. The filling is simply made of canned peaches, cinnamon and brown sugar! That's it! It is so super easy to make and so incredibly delicious!
How long does peach cobbler last?
In my house, cobbler only lasts a few minutes because it gets eaten so fast. But if you happen to have leftovers, feel free to cover it and store it on the counter for 2 days. If you need to store it longer, put it in the fridge and it should last about a week.
How do you know when cobbler is done?
I love cobbler to have a golden top, slightly browned edges, and thick, yummy juices popping up through the crust! But to really know when it is done, you can put a thermometer into the thickest part of your crust. It should hit about 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Can you make peach cobbler with cake mix?
Yup, that's actually my secret to making this recipe SO simple! Simple enough to make while camping even!
You only need to pour dry vanilla cake mix on top of the cobbler filling, top with a few slices of butter and cook it for the easiest cobbler topping ever!
What is the best way to cook cobbler?
I personally love a dutch oven cobbler! There is something absolutely delicious about cobbler cooked long and slow over coals! I have this dutch oven HERE.
You can, however, use the exact recipe in your slow cooker for about 2-3 hours, or in your oven for around 30-60 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit if you prefer.
If you are going to make this peach cobbler recipe in a dutch oven, I suggest you use coals without lighter fluid.
A chimney can take a while to get coals started, so I prefer to start my coals with my HomeRight ElectroTorch!
The HomeRight ElectroTorch will get your coals going in just a few minutes with very little effort. This is seriously the ONLY way I start coals anymore.
