Ever since starting kindergarten we have had the typical morning struggles with little kids. Sometimes my daughter is awake at the crack of dawn (literally before 6am some days!) and other times I am dragging her out of bed at 8am and rushing to get her ready for school on time. We try to keep consistent bedtimes but for some reason we can't keep a consistent time to wake up. So I decided it was time to get my daughter an alarm clock! And after a lot of research, I decided to go with Onaroo Ok to Wake alarm clock.
I loved the Ok to Wake alarm clock because not only does it work as a traditional alarm clock, but you can also set it to glow green when it is ok to get out of bed.
So, since my daughter tends to wake up really early some days (she came into our room ready for the day at 4am the other week), we decided to set the alarm to glow green at 7am. This means she is not allowed to get out of bed until it is glowing green at 7am. This helps prevent 4am bursts into our bedroom 🙂 and allows her time to get adequate sleep in the morning without being worried that she is going to miss the bus.
This feature has proved especially useful this spring because it gets light so early (before day light saving time kicks in) and my kids thought just because it was light outside it was time to get up. 🙁 Alarm clock isn't glowing = it isn't time to get out of bed!
But just in case she is a little extra tired, (and after day light saving time kicked in and it was dark again in the mornings) her alarm clock is set to go off at 7:30am to give her plenty of time to get ready for the school bus.
You can set all of the alarm clock and glowing features on the back, behind a little door so it can't easily be changed by little kids.
I love that she can learn to rely on an alarm clock to get up and that she is not learning to rely on my to get her out of bed each morning. Teaching children to be independent like this is not only good to build their self-confidence but is also helping my daughter to learn important life skills!
What a great alarm clock!
We also love that it is cute and comes with an interchangeable face plate. My daughter chose the pink flower face plate, but for the boys, it does come with a green bug face plate as well.
How do your kids wake up in the morning?

This is such a neat idea! I also have a little one who likes to get up really early. This would be perfect. Thanks for sharing!
