LEGO®'s have always fascinated me. I am amazed at how you can build the most extraordinary things with tiny plastic blocks. And my children have both started building with LEGO®s at a young age. In fact, I have found that you can improve fine motor skills and following directions with LEGO® play time! Seriously! The simplified instructions are easy enough for many 4-5 years olds to understand, they learn how to match pieces together and they also improve their fine motor skills by putting together (and taking apart) these tiny plastic blocks! So come and see what happened when my children were sent two huge boxes of brand, new LEGO® JUNIORS!
Improve Fine Motor Skills and Following Directions with LEGO®
Do you see that look of pure joy on my son's face!? Oh my goodness he could not contain his excitement! This was the biggest box of LEGO® bricks he had ever received! And my daughter was so thrilled to get a set of LEGO®'s too!
LEGO® JUNIORS is perfect for children age 4-7 and provide a great first experience with LEGO® bricks! I love the numbered pre-packed bags that can be built quickly and simply and with no (or very little) help from mom or dad!
Because my daughter is 7 and has been working on LEGO® sets since she was 4, she can put these together very quickly! She has learned how to follow the instructions quickly and efficiently! I know that taking the time to show my daughter how to follow LEGO® instructions at a young age has actually helped her follow instructions and directions in school! I have watched over the years how she has been able to improve fine motor skills and following directions with LEGO®!
My son is only 4 and so he needed a little more guidance for his LEGO® set. But I sat down with him and helped teach him how to follow the instructions, how to find the correct pieces and then how to assemble them! He actually caught on really quickly!! And while he still needs help, he loves to build and he loves LEGO®'s!
The more my son builds, the more confidence he gains. I know that this will help him in many areas of his life and am thrilled that he can learn some very important life skills while playing!
You can see a bit of his "Master Builder" LEGO® shirt he wore while he built! (Check out my DIY LEGO® Shirt post here.)
My daughter quickly had one of her LEGO® projects built! She really does love building with LEGO®'s.
And my son was so proud of his carriage we built together! And while he has a little way to go to be proficient and independent, I love watching him improve!
I love that LEGO®'s are a great quiet activity to work on together. And I know that while my children are busy playing, they are also learning and improving much needed life skills. There are so many ways to incorporate learning into fun activities and I love how I can see my children both improve fine motor skills and following directions with LEGO®!
