We have lived in our home for three years now. We love our home. There are many amazing things about it. But a few I've been wanting to change as well. One thing I've always wanted to do was to change our slightly-upgraded-builder-grade faucets out for a more stylish bathroom faucet!
Not long after we moved in, we replaced our kitchen faucet because it desperately needed to be replaced! And thanks to Moen, we had the opportunity to replace our downstairs half-bath faucet with a brand new stylish Moen Boardwalk Centerset bathroom faucet in Chrome! Wahoo!
Replacing a faucet is actually really very very simple. Unless, you have a pedestal sink in which case your 15 minute project might turn into a half a day project...just sayin'
But don't worry! I will walk you through exactly how to replace a faucet, whether or not you have a pedestal sink!
The difficulty with a pedestal sink is that the drain was not easily accessible to remove and replace. With a traditional sink this will be very easy to access and you will have no problems at all! Replacing a faucet will literally only take you 15 minutes!
Anyway...I was THRILLED when this came in the mail the other day...
It was so pretty! I literally couldn't wait to install it!
Here is what our existing faucet looked like. It isn't bad. It is even a Moen brand so it is really well made and I honestly haven't had any complaints about it! But I always wanted something a bit more stylish and I fell in love with the Moen Boardwalk faucet!
When replacing a faucet, you will first want to stop your water flow, then detach your plug lever thingy, unhook your water lines, twist the plastic nut off of the faucet bolts and your faucet should literally just pull off of your sink! Easy peasy!
We needed no tools for this part of our project.
You will reinstall your new faucet in the reverse manner!
This is where things got complicated for us. In order to remove our drain, we had to reach an area of our sink that was virtually unaccessible. And because the drain was attached with a metal nut that we needed a wrench to loosen, we really couldn't unattach the existing drain.
So...our pedestal sink basin came off. Thank goodness I have a super strong husband who was able to help me out with this part! The pedestal sink basin came off just by pulling it off, but it definitely takes muscle! So be careful and enlist help if you need to!
After the sink basin is off, you will simply use a wrench to losen your nut and your drain will easily come out of place.
To install the new drain, you will simply place a small roll of plumbers putty around the edge and press the new drain into your sink basin.
Reattach all of your plastic pipes and your plug lever according to manufacturer's instructions and within a few minutes your new drain is installed and ready to go!
Next we re-installed our sink. We needed to patch our wall using drywall patch and a putty knife and let it dry. We then used LocTite Heavy Duty Power Grab Adhesive on our sink basin where it would attach to the stand and the wall. Then my handy, strong husband lifted the sink basin back into place!
We of course needed to go back and paint our wall where we patched it.
Our faucet was reattached in the same manner that we took it off. Inserted it into place, tightened it down with the nuts, reattached the water lines and turned the water back on!
I just LOVE how my new faucet looks!! And honestly, even with having to take apart our sink, it was a fairly quick project and a really simple DIY!
Even all the little hands in our house were anxious to test the faucet out! And I am happy to say that we are thrilled with the new look and feel of our new Moen Boardwalk faucet!
The handles move so smoothly and it looks amazing!

If you could install a new faucet in one room of your house, where would it be?

This post cracks me up because we had a pedestal sink. then we tried to replace a faucet and accidentally knocked over the pedestal, could never find a new pedestal that fit (bought two different ones -- probably still have them in the garage), so we bought a whole new sink, counter and cabinet!

It really is a nice addition to the sink, although the one you had before looked pretty nice too. We can soon tire of things we look at every day, isn’t that so true! I am just about to go shopping for a new shelving unit and mirror for the bathroom and have been inspired by your style, thanks!
