This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Serta.  All opinions are 100% mine.

I know I know.  We would all like a better night's sleep, right!?  Or maybe just more sleep?!  I definitely wish I was able to get more sleep at night.  But if you are here, there is a good chance it is because you are not sleeping as good as you would like to sleep.  So today I want to share a few tips and tricks that help me get a better night's sleep!

How to Get a Better Night's Sleep

The National Sleep Foundation has identified 5 common sleep problems:

  1. Tossing and Turning
  2. Lack of Support
  3. Sleeping too Hot or too Cold
  4. Partner Disturbance
  5. Mattress Sag or Roll Off

I share these because I want you to know that you are not alone!  If you have any of these, you are like many others who don't get the best night's sleep possible!  But don't worry!  There are ways to help!  Here are a few tips I want to share about how I have learned to get a better night's sleep!

How to Get a Better Night's Sleep

Relax

Spend 30-60 minutes in the evening just relaxing!  I find that if I work and then try to go to bed right away, it just doesn't happen!  My mind is reeling and I can't get it to turn off!  But, if I spend 30-60 minutes in the evening just relaxing.  Not doing dishes, not checking email, just relaxing, my body and mind are able to relax and sleep better at night.  You can spend this time watching your favorite tv show, reading a book or just talking to your spouse or a friend.

Unplug

Yup.  That's right.  Feel free to watch tv to relax, but be sure to unplug 15-20 minutes before you hope to fall asleep.  Use this time to do your night time routine and brush your teeth.  You can even read a book!  But spend some time off of technology before you hit the hay. Oh and if you like reading before bed like I do, you might want to consider upgrading your traditional box spring to an adjustable platform like we recently did!  We have the Serta Motion Essentials™ adjustable platform and it allows us to adjust the head and the feet which makes reading in bed super comfortable and convenient!  We actually read together in bed more often now because this has made it so much more comfortable!

Drink Up

It is important to stay hydrated even while you sleep.  Be sure to drink plenty of water in the evenings, but if you are anything like me, you might want to stop about an hour (or two) before bed time to avoid middle of the night runs to the potty!

Dress Appropriately

If you tend to sleep hot or cold, you might simply be wearing the wrong clothing!  You can also adjust your thermostat to help keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer if needed.  However, sometimes no matter what you do, you simply sleep too hot or cold.  And guess what!?  It might not be you!

Our previous bed slept hot.  No matter the time of year, my husband would sleep restlessly because he was hot.  This didn't bother me as much in the winter as it did the summer, but I was still very affected by it.  Neither of us were getting the sleep we needed because we woke up warm far too often!  We were happy to discover that this could be solved by simply changing our mattress.  True story.

The Serta 2015 advancements include Cool Action™ Gel Memory Foam which means our new Serta Perfect Sleeper Memory Foam Mattress is actually designed to sleep cooler!  And it does!  We noticed this from the very first night we slept on it.  We were much more comfortable right away!

Now that we no longer wake up in the middle of the night due to getting too hot, we are sleeping better and waking refreshed in the morning.  And I am a lot more patient with my whole family when I get a good night's sleep.  True story.  I am able to be a much more patient wife and mother now that I am sleeping better at night which I know improves our family relationships.

It Might Not Be You...

It might actually be your mattress.  I know, I know you probably don't want to hear that.  But I have slept on old, worn out, or simply incorrect mattresses and I have woken up in pain.  If you are experiencing pain, or any of the other 5 common sleeping problems, it might not be you, it simply might be time to break up with your mattress.  If you are considering purchasing a new bed, check out the Top Things To Look For When Purchasing a New Bed.

The good news is is that the Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses are designed to be comfortable, so you never have to count sheep again.  They are the only official mattress of the National Sleep Foundation designed specifically to help solve the 5 common sleep problems.  Select models even have Custom Support® Individual Advantage coils or Cool Action™ Gel Memory Foam.  And you can choose from a traditional mattress, a pillow top mattress or even a memory foam bed all at an attainable price point ($399 - $1,299 standard queen set suggested retail pricing).

You can of course put your new mattress on traditional box springs, or the Perfect Sleeper mattresses are compatible with Serta's adjustable foundations like I mentioned above.  I have the Motion Essential™ which allows us to adjust the head and foot of the mattress, but the Pivot™ model allows you to adjust only the head of the mattress if you prefer a more simple option.

Want to see the new bed in my bedroom!?  I created this short 2 minutes video sharing some of the things we love about our new bed!

I didn't know about hot beds, tee hee. Hey do you know to keep your mattress in better shape it is best to rotate it every few months. Which make sense you wear that spot down, and then if you rotate it you move on to a new spot giving the area you previously were laying on a rest to go back to it's natural form. Not saying an old mattress but with your new mattress.
