A few days ago I shared my BBQ Rub Recipe here and today I am super excited to share my favorite BBQ Sauce Recipe! This is truly the best BBQ Sauce Recipe you will ever find. Homemade BBQ sauce is so much better than anything you can buy at the store, and once you make it yourself, you can never go back. Keep reading to snag the full recipe.
The BEST BBQ Sauce Recipe
Last summer we went to Austin, TX and it completely ruined our ability to eat most BBQ. We had some of the most delicious BBQ in the world and nothing in the midwest compares.
Still the thing I missed most, was the delicious BBQ sauce. And every since then I have been on a mission to create my own delicious homemade BBQ sauce recipe and I think I have finally nailed it!
This sauce is sweet with the tiniest hint of spice. It is the kind of addictively delicious sauce that you cover your meat in and then use a roll to mop up the rest off your plate.
Yes. It is that good.
It is surprising how easy it is to make your own BBQ sauce and I honestly don't know why I didn't do this sooner. Nothing at the store even compares with how yummy this is.
So make a batch and enjoy just how delicious this really is. But you may never go back to store bought sauce again. Sorry.
By the way, this sauce pairs absolutely perfectly with my dry BBQ Rub recipe. Sprinkle some rub on your favorite meat, grill it up, and in the last few minutes on the grill, drizzle this BBQ sauce over it and let it carmelize just a bit.
You will have the most delicious dinner ever!
And don't worry, I am going to be sharing my BBQ Chicken recipe with you soon too! So stay tuned...it's an absolutely delicious way to eat chicken!
The thing I love most about making your own BBQ sauce is that you can modify and tweak it. If you like a little more spice, add more Tabasco Sauce. If you prefer it a bit sweeter, add a little more brown sugar. If you want to up the acidity in it, add more vinegar.
But I think this recipe is absolutely perfect just the way it is! It is sweet and delicious and oh-so-perfect on absolutely any meat!
How do you make easy BBQ sauce?
To make your own BBQ sauce you need just a few ingredients like ketchup, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, Tabasco sauce, Worchester sauce, liquid smoke and a few spices. You warm it up on the stove to help the flavors meld together and then let it cool in the fridge.
This homemade BBQ sauce recipe is not as thick as most BBQ sauces that you buy in the grocery store. But it has so much flavor and reminds me of the BBQ sauce we had in Texas.
This recipe has a secret ingredient though that I haven't seen used in any BBQ recipe every before! My sweet friend told me that she uses it in her BBQ sauce recipe and I couldn't resist adding just a touch to mine too.
I think it really helps deepen the flavors in this recipe and it gives it just a little something extra. Are you ready to know what it is? Ready?
Cinnamon.
Yup. I have added just a touch of cinnamon to this recipe and it brings just an extra something special to the recipe. So a big thank you to my dear sweet friend who told me her secret!
The base of this recipe is ketchup because this is a Texas-style BBQ sauce recipe. Carolina BBQ sauce has a vinegar and mustard base. But I am a huge fan of Texas-style BBQ and this just fits the bill.
The liquid smoke adds just a hint of smokiness to this recipe which makes it perfect to use, even if you are just grilling your meat.
If you like something with a little more spice, feel free to add more Tabasco sauce to this recipe. But my BBQ Rub has a pretty good kick to it, so I wanted to keep my BBQ sauce a bit sweeter.

This sounds delicious. I screenshot it. Hopefully I can make it when we go to our house in the Florida keys. We always grill there.
