Pumpkin Carving with a DREMEL

Besides the obligatory pumpkin we carved using a kitchen knife for my daughter, this was the last pumpkin we carved for Halloween this year.  And I think it is by far my favorite!

Several years ago, while at some home improvement store, I saw a battery operated tool for pumpkin carving.  I always said "next year I'll buy this."  And when next year came, I forgot.  This year, I decided I was finally going to buy it.

When I went to the store, I realized that this tool was actually a Dremel pumpkin carving tool.  Ooooooooohhhh!  A Dremel!!

So I contemplated buying the Dremel Pumpkin Carving Tool.  And then I decided to splurge and buy a nicer Dremel so that I could do other things with it.

But task number one was to carve a pumpkin with it!

Pumpkin #4:  Pumpkin Carved using a Dremel

One of the cool things about pumpkins is that you don't have to carve all the way through to create a fun, lighted effect!

I decided to use the Dremel to only go through the top layer of the pumpkin.  We put a strand of Christmas lights inside so that a lot of light was given off, and when lighted, you can still see the carved image even though it is not all the way through!!  How cool is that!?!?

First you will need your pumpkin.  We took off the top and cleaned out the insides.

Then you will need a Dremel.  This is the one I bought.  (I purchased this Dremel myself.  I am not being compensated in any way for promoting this tool...I just really love it!)

I used tip 191 to carve my pumpkin.

Next I chose a design and printed it.  I taped the design on my pumpkin.

And using a paperclip or a pin, puncture holes through the pumpkin to give you a  basic outline to carve your pumpkin from.

Using your super cool Dremel and tip 191, go ahead and carve through the top layer of pumpkin.

This really was so much fun!  I love my new tool!  And yes, I did this all by myself!  I love power tools.

Beware.  Carving a pumpkin with a Dremel creates pumpkin dust.  Lots and lots of pumpkin dust.

I decided to wire a plastic spider to the center of my web.  This has already freaked my husband out once!  haha!  Too funny huh!?

In case you were wondering, using the Dremel on a pumpkin is smooth like buttah!  It is amazing.  So easy, so simple, so precise, so fun!

Dremels make a bad day better.  Honest, they do!
