You may or may not know this, but I am originally from Massachusetts. No matter how many states I have lived in, Mass will always be "home" for me. One of my favorite things to see there are the cranberry bogs during harvest time! When they harvest cranberries, they flood the bogs and the cranberries rise to the top (yes, just like in the Ocean Spray commercial!) It is truly a majestic site!
So when I found a used cranberry bog vintage crate from a bog in Massachusetts on eBay, I knew I needed to have it!
And I am excited to show you today what I did with it! I took a used cranberry bog crate and turned it into cute vintage rolling storage option for my home!
To create a vintage Rolling Repurposed Cranberry Bog Crate, here is what you will need:
- vintage cranberry bog crate
- (4) casters (wheels)
- drill with drill bit in the appropriate size (I needed ⅝")
- (4) washers (to fit your casters)
- (4) nuts (to fit your casters)
I ordered my used vintage crate and my casters and as soon as they arrived I got to work!
To add wheels to a crate you will simply mark where you want to drill your holes, drill and then attach the wheels.
When you are marking your location to drill, be sure that your wheels will fit underneath the crate and not stick out or bump anything. Measure and mark all four spots on the bottom of your crate with a pencil.
I used a ⅝" drill bit and my drill to drill the holes for the caster bolts to go through. You may need to use a different size drill bit depending on the size of your casters and bolts.
I placed my casters in place and then used a washer and a nut to secure the wheels in place.
The wheels I ordered did not come with the washers or the nuts, so I had to hit up my local hardware store to find what I needed. The bolts on the casters were a bit of an odd size, but I was able to find what I needed in the metric size bolt section. I used 10mm to fit these bolts.
You can simply hand tighten these on to secure the wheels in place.
I did this with all four wheels.
And I absolutely adore how my vintage repurposed rolling crate turned out!
Crates can be used for so many storage purposes! They can hold pillows, blankets, books, music books or even toys! And I love that this can be rolled around the house!
We have a lot of pillows in our family room so I thought this would be the perfect place to hold a few of our pillows when they aren't needed!
And every time I look at it I think of home! And cranberries! Yum!
Have you ever repurposed a crate?
