Brown Sugar Scrub
This brown sugar body scrub recipe is a wonderful way to keep your skin smooth and soft. If you are looking for a wonderful Brown Sugar Face Scrub, you should check out my recipe for that HERE.
How to use brown sugar body scrub
The best way to use a sugar scrub is to lightly wet your hands and area that you want to scrub with water, and then scoop a bit of scrub into your hands. Use your hands to massage the scrub into the areas you want to exfoliate for several minutes, then wash off.
Where can I use brown sugar scrub?
You can use this scrub recipe on your whole body. It is a fantastic whole body scrub. But I love to use it on my feet, knees, elbows, tummy, back, and hands as I find those places need the most exfoliation. You can also use this scrub on your face, but I actually prefer this recipe for my face here.
What does brown sugar scrub do for your skin?
When you combine brown sugar with oil (and other ingredients) to make a facial scrub, you are able to create an all-natural, money-saving face scrub that is simply amazing! This type of sugar scrub can gently yet thoroughly exfoliate the skin on your face, removing dead skin and revealing softer, smoother skin. A brown sugar scrub can also help to even skin tones, remove impurities, and improve the texture of your skin. And because you will add oil to this scrub, it can moisturize your skin too.
How often do you use brown sugar scrub?
You can use this particular sugar scrub daily if you want. But I personally find that using it once or twice a week is enough for me.
What ingredients do you need for a brown sugar body scrub?
How to make brown sugar scrub?
To make a brown sugar scrub, you simply mix together brown sugar, fractionated coconut oil, Unscented Castile Soap, and Peace & Calming essential oil until they are well combined. You will want to store it in an air-tight container.
Can I change the oil in this scrub recipe?
Yes of course you can. I love using fractionated coconut oil because it doesn't have a strong fragrance and it is inexpensive and easy to keep on hand. But if you prefer to use another oil like grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, or almond oil, go for it! Sub equal parts for your preferred oil and keep the rest of the recipe the same.
Why do you add essential oils to your body scrub?
I love adding essential oils to body scrubs because they can add both wonderful scents and have therapeutic benefits as well. This brown sugar scrub contains Peace & Calming essential oil which is a Young Living blend of essential oils. It does just what the name says it does 🙂 And I love to use this while I am scrubbing my whole body as it helps me feel relaxed and calm.

Which sugar is best for body scrub?
Brown sugar is a great sugar to use for body scrubs. It is softer than granulated sugar but still provides great exfoliating. Granulated sugar is another great sugar for body scrubs, but I don't like granulated sugar for face scrubs.
How long does brown sugar scrub last?
The length of time sugar scrubs will last can vary greatly. Keeping your sugar scrub in an air-tight container in a non-humid location can help lengthen the time that it will last. Generally speaking, homemade sugar scrubs last 3-6 months. If you start to notice a weird smell, it is because the carrier oil (like fractionated coconut oil) has gone rancid. At this point, I would throw away my sugar scrub and make a new one. I will note though that it is easy to go through a recipe of this brown sugar scrub before mine has ever gone bad.
Tips for DIY Brown Sugar Scrub:
- Ensure your brown sugar is fresh.
- Start slow when adding liquid oil to your scrub. It can get very thin too quickly. This recipe will make a drier scrub recipe. Feel free to add more if you prefer.
- Be sure to add the soap as it will help rinse and clean your body and will help there not be any oily residue left on your skin.
- Feel free to switch up the essential oil blend used if you like, but I only recommend that you use Young Living Essential Oils. Use other brands with extreme caution, not all brands of essential oils are intended for topical use.
- Store this in an air-tight container.
- Keep it in a cool, dry location.
- If it starts to smell bad, throw it out, the coconut oil (or other carrier oil) has gone rancid.
- If your scrub separates, no big deal, just mix it up again!
