Honey Lemon Grilled Salmon
I am living in a new town now (read all about that HERE) and I am still learning my way around, and where to buy things. I knew I could go into Seattle to get fresh fish if I needed to, but I felt so happy when I discovered a local fish market that gets their fish super fresh, straight from the ocean or river that it was swimming in just a day or two before.
When I went into the local market, fresh wild salmon filet caught my eye! It looked amazing and it did not disappoint!
If you think salmon tastes too fishy, it's because you haven't had fresh fish. This was perfectly light, flaky and delicious!
Honey Lemon Salmon
You can cook salmon so many different ways, but fish is traditionally good with a touch of lemon. I decided to up my game though and give it a sweet and tangy taste and I created a delicious honey lemon glaze to put on top prior to cooking!
This honey lemon glaze is so delicious and gives the salmon a perfectly light flavor.
You will simply mix together a simple glaze using olive oil, honey, salt and pepper. Then you will brush that on the fish and squeeze a lemon over top. I love to put lemon slices below and on top of my fish too, and I added a twig of rosemary too for a little extra flavor infusion.
Is salmon healthy for you?
Most people agree that salmon is healthy for you. Omega-3 fatty acids are important for heart and brain health and it is important that we all have omega-3 fatty acids in our diet.
Salmon also tends to be low in calories, low in fat and high in protein so it is a great protein to regularly rotate through your diet.
How do you know when salmon is done?
Salmon is so easy to cook because it is simple to know when it is done. When salmon is cooked properly it will change from translucent and bright pink to a more muted pink (salmon) color and it will be opaque. It should be easy to flake off with a fork too, just be sure to check the thickest part of your fish prior to serving to ensure it's completely cooked.
What is the best way to cook salmon?
Salmon in foil over coals. That's the best way to cook salmon in my opinion.
You will want to put oil on the fish or use butter to help prevent it from sticking, then simply season your fish, wrap it in foil and put it on the grill!
I like to cook my salmon in foil uncovered for part of the time, and covered for the rest of the time, but either way is ok!
You can cook this over a gas grill, but I prefer a charcoal grill. I didn't have access to a grill, so I decided to grill salmon over coals in a fire pit! This will give you the same results as over coals in a grill!
I prefer to use charcoals without lighter fluid, so it can take a while for them to get going using a traditional charcoal chimney.
But I decided to use my brand new HomeRight ElectroTorch instead.
The ElectroTorch can get coals going and ready to use in only a few minutes! Woot woot! So I save time, and my food always comes out perfectly delicious.
The ElectroTorch is the perfect way to get a fire going and is the perfect accessory for home, camping or in your RV. (And since I am currently living the RV life (read about it HERE) this is a must-have item for us!
But what we found REALLY useful about this new accessory is the dual controls! There is one setting to help light the coals/wood, and another setting to give lots of ait to help stock the flames and get your fire going in no time! It helped sooooo much to get things moving quickly.
I love this to light my fire without needing chemicals or lighter fluid. It just uses 1500 degree temperature hot air! That's it!
And it is totally affordable too!

What should I serve with salmon?
We put another package full of green beans next to our salmon on the grill and enjoyed grilled green beans and grilled salmon! But there are so many options, here are a few ideas:
- grilled green beans
- salad
- fruit salad
- broccoli
- asparagus
- brussel sprouts
- any green veggie is my favorite to accompany salmon!
Honey Lemon Grilled Salmon Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1lb Salmon
- ½ Lemon
- 1 Rosemary Twig
- More lemons for serving if desired
Glaze:
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Honey
- ⅛ teaspoon Pepper
- ⅛ teaspoon Salt
- ½ Lemon
Directions:
1. Mix olive oil, honey, pepper and salt in a small bowl.
2. Brush mixture on the foil.
3. Cut ½ lemon into thin slices and place a few on the bottom of a piece of foil large enough for your salmon to fit on it.
4. Place salmon on top of sliced lemons, brush with olive oil mixture and squeeze the other half of lemon on top of it.
5. My little one wanted to get in on helping me too. So she helped me squeeze some lemon onto the fish too.
6. Place remaining lemon slices on top of salmon and a rosemary twig.
7. And I had a little "helper" for this step too! Don't worry, we washed her hands right away.
8. Loosely wrap salmon in foil.
9. Place coals into firepit or in grill and light the charcoal using HomeRight's ElectroTorch.
10. Place salmon on grill over coals and allow to cook until it is done. This will take anywhere from 10-30 minutes depending on how hot your coals are, how close your fish is to the coals and if your salmon is completely covered in foil or if the top is open. You will know when it is cooked because the salmon will be opaque and lighter pink (not translucent and bright pink)
11. Enjoy immediately with more fresh lemon if desired.
TIPS:
We started cooking our salmon with the foil open. About 10 minutes later we placed a piece of foil tented over the salmon and it finished cooking up perfectly!
While you are cooking over coals, go ahead and toss some green beans in oil, place them in foil, and cook those up too! Grilled green beans are SO delicious and the perfect, and easy, side to go with your salmon!
Fresh salmon is one of the most delicious and healthy things you can eat and I am so excited to be able to get fresh salmon again! This recipe is in my weekly rotation now and I am just loving it!!!
