Grilled Pineapple Slices and a Scrumptious Grilled Pineapple Dessert
Today I am sharing my grilled pineapple recipe and also how to turn these slices into an amazing dessert too! It is so good, you may never want to eat pineapple another way ever again.
Is grilled pineapple good for you?
Yes, grilled pineapple is good for you! Pineapple is a delicious fruit that is also high in Vitamin C and manganese. And it contains fiber too. While adding butter and sugar may make it be not quite as healthy, you don't need to add those if you don't want to. Just grilling pineapple with nothing on it is a delicious and sweet treat!
Why would you grill pineapple?
Grilling pineapple can be an easy and fun way to enjoy pineapple in the summer. When you cook pineapple, the juices caramelize a bit, yielding an extra sweet treat that is too hard to resist.
Will grilling pineapple make it dry?
Sometimes grilling pineapple slices can yield dry pineapple which is no good. To avoid that, I like to coat mine in a delicious layer of butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon first to ensure that the pineapple doesn't dry out. This keeps the pineapple juicy and adds a little extra flavor to it too!
This method adds some delicious extra flavor that takes this grilled pineapple recipe to the next level. It will make you never go back to regular, boring, old pineapple ever again.
How do you cut a pineapple for grilling?
I love to cut my pineapple into round slices for grilling. But you could also cut them into long slices too. The most important thing is that all your pineapple slices are as uniform in thickness and size as possible so that they will cook evenly.
How do you sweeten pineapple with sugar?
For this recipe, I sweeten the pineapple just a touch. Here is how to sweeten pineapple with sugar:
- Melt butter
- Add brown sugar and cinnamon into melted butter
- Dip pineapple slices into mixture ensuring both sides are covered
You can use this recipe over a gas grill, but a charcoal grill is just better! We never use coals with anything added to them (like lighter fluid) because we just think it makes the food taste different. Real charcoal is the best way to grill!
But plain charcoal can sometimes be a little tedious to get going. We have a charcoal chimney starter and it's fine, but a couple of years ago, HomeRight came out with the Electro-Light Fire Starter and that was a total game changer!
I simply plugged it in, turned it on and aimed it at my charcoal and within a few minutes, it was lite and ready to go! I never start my charcoal grill without this anymore because it is so much faster and easier than a chimney starter and I can still use my lighter fluid free charcoal! Woot woot!

How to grill pineapple?
- Light your grill and let it warm-up
- Coat pineapple slices with a mixture of butter, brown sugar and cinnamon
- Place coated pineapples on the grill for a few minutes on each side until they are cooked perfectly
- Eat as is or top with ice cream, chocolate sauce, and coconut
If you want a little more in-depth recipe, keep reading...
After I lit my grill as I described above, I put the lid on and just let it sit for a bit and warm up the grill plate. I used that time to get my pineapple prepared.
I simply took fresh pineapple slices (you can buy a whole pineapple and slice it, or you can buy fresh pineapple sliced pre-cut in the produce section of some grocery stores, either will work) and dredged them in a mixture of butter, brown sugar and cinnamon, being sure that both sides were coated.
Once the pineapple slices were coated with delicious goodness, I placed them on the grill and let them grill for a few minutes on each side until they were perfectly cooked.
The pineapples are perfect just like this! You can eat them as a side dish or as a dessert with no more work needed.
But if you want to take them up a notch...which I highly recommend you do...you'll only need to do a few more steps!
Grilled Pineapple Dessert
I let my grilled pineapple cool a bit and then I topped them with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and coconut and man, oh, man are these ever delicious!!!
I really wish you could just reach through the screen and take a bite because they are the perfect combination of sweet, fruity, chocolaty, hot and cold goodness that is perfect for any summer-time dessert!
Yum. Yum. Yum.
