With Thanksgiving less then a week a way, and guests coming into town, I am scrambling to whip up a cute (yet simple) Tday Tablescape that fits my budget and my style! I already showed you how to create a really cute table runner, so be sure to check out Part 1 of my Turkey Tablescape HERE where I show you how to make my really cute Autumn Harvest Burlap Table Runner! A big thanks again to Jo-Ann for helping me finish this project!
I only did one more thing to finalize my Thanksgiving Tablescape and it was really simple and really fun! But it did take a bit of time, just a warning. If you noticed in my previous pictures, I have these fun greenery balls as a centerpiece on my table. (go here to see what I'm talking about...I'll wait...)
Well they are cute, but they don't quite scream fall! So I decided to change them out with a little DIY project I created: Autumn Felt PomPoms!
To create these you will need:
- 1 yard of felt each in 3 different colors
- several hundred pins (I had a box of 500, but I did not use them all!)
- (3) 4" styrofoam balls
- Sizzix Big Shot with Flower Layers #11 or 2" circle die, or scissors
I used my brand new toy, my Sizzix Big Shot and my Flower Layers #11 die and cut out a LOT of approximately 2" flowers. I will tell you more about the Sizzix Big Shot in an upcoming blog post but just know that it is available at JoAnn and they are amazing! This worked perfect for cutting mass amounts of the felt flowers. I was able to do 4 layers at a time so it went pretty quickly!
Anyway...more on that later!
So first you will want to cut your felt into either flowers or circles. You can really do this quite quickly with a good pair of fabric shears too! Just make one circle template and you will be able to cut a couple layers of felt at one time with nice scissors. These do NOT have to be perfect.
Next you will fold your circles / flowers in half, and then in half again. Then pin the bottom corner of felt into the sytrofoam ball. Repeat until your entire styrofoam ball is covered in felt.
This will take more felt circles / flowers then you expect but you can also space them our fairly far apart, they will fluff up and take up quite a bit of room!
This is a great project to enlist the help of your kiddos too! They will love helping you cut, fold and pin (depending on age of course!).
And I just LOVE how my Thanksgiving Day Table turned out! This would have been perfect to have all fall long too! I honestly love fall decor and there is a good chance that these felt PomPoms will be finding a permanent home on display in my home.
And in case you missed it yesterday, Jo-Ann is currently running a 50% off coupon! Be sure to grab yours before you go!
