At my daughter's Valentine's Day party, one of the activities they did was to create a Cootie Catcher! Wow, this brought me back to my childhood days! So I really wanted to create a St Patricks Day Cootie Catcher for my children (and yours) to create this year! And I decided to have my daughter show you how to fold a cootie catcher! This short (20 second) video shows her folding this whole thing up! It is so simple and easy to do!
For those that need a little more explanation here you go:
- begin by trimming your paper to a square
- then fold in half both ways just to get a few fold lines on your page
- lay flat, pretty side down
- fold each corner into the middle
- flip your paper over
- fold each corner into the middle
- fold in half
- place fingers into the finger areas and carefully fold it out and open it until you get your cootie catcher shape
I left the cootie catcher fortunes empty so you can create your own! Simply write in your own fortunes, wishes or funny sayings on the inside of this cootie catcher! We like saying such as:
- You (Sham)Rock my world
- Lucky
- Kiss Me
- Follow Your Dream
Or any other fun St. Patrick's Day wishes or fortunes you can think of!
How to play:
- hold cootie catcher closed
- someone will choose a letter on the outside (L,U,C,K)
- take cootie catcher in and out while you say the alphabet until you reach the letter they chose
- someone will choose a number that they see on the inside
- take cootie catcher in and out while you count until you reach the number they chose
- someone will choose another number
- lift the number up and read them their fortune!
And that's it! If your kids are anything like mine, they will play with this for hours! Enjoy!

I used to use cootie catchers with my students to practice vocabulary words. They always looked at me like I was crazy when I called them a cootie catcher. Apparently "fortune tellers" are what they are called now! Either way, they always had fun with them. Thanks for sharing this one!
