I have a few closets bursting at the seams. Even though my husband "secretly" purged our linen closet not that long ago, it is still way too full. (Ok, I feel the need to address that last sentence, yes my husband purges and cleans, he is amazing, back off ladies. And yes he thought he did it without me knowing (mostly because he probably wanted to get rid of things he thought I wouldn't want to get rid of). But I was on to him and I love him even more for it.) Moving on...closets, bursting at the seams...So I had the great idea to create more storage space in my home by taking advantage of unused vertical space! So I ordered a few over the door organizers and used them in different ways to help organize my home. And can I just tell you how nice it feels to have closets that are a bit more organized and my house feels more put together! This is the perfect solution if you live in tight quarters or are just short on space! So today I am really excited to share 3 Unconventional Ways to use an Over the Door Organizer with you.
I am really happy to be a part of the Better Homes and Gardens Live Better Network. A big thank you to them for making this post possible. All ideas and opinions are my own.
3 Unconventional Ways to use an Over the Door Organizer
I snagged (3) over the door organizers from the Better Homes and Gardens line found exclusively at Walmart. You can find wonderful organizational products in store, but you can also find so many items online too. And then I got to work adding a bit more organization to my home. These organizers were easy to put together. They just unfold and then you use the three enclosed brackets to hang them over the door, easy as can be!
Use an Over the Door Organizer to Add More Pantry Space
The first place I put an over the door organizer was in my pantry. I just have two small closets for pantries and I never seem to have enough room. So I put one of these in one of my pantries and decided it would be the perfect place to store snacks, juice boxes, cookies and other foods or baking items. I was surprised how much I could actually fit in each of these cubbies if I wanted to!
Use an Over the Door Organizer in your Linen Closet
Even though my husband did a great job secretly purging our linen closet the other day, I still feel like we don't have enough room for all our towels, sheets and blankets. With an over the door organizer I was able to open up more space in the closet by putting washcloths, hand towels and pillowcases in the hanging organizer which left only the big towels, blankets and sheets in the main part of the closet. I still have a little more work to go with this closet, but I can already tell it will be easier to find things and I will no longer need to stuff things into this closet anymore.
Use an Over the Door Organizer to Organize Winter Gear
Our downstairs closet is always overflowing with winter gear. And my children (especially my son) can never find what they are looking for. Every morning they rummage through the baskets looking for matching gloves, hats and scarves. And every morning they get on the bus and I come in to a back entry way full of gloves, hats and scarves all over the floor. So I decided to put an over the door organizer in my back hallway closet to help them find their winter gear! Hats, scarves, gloves all fit really well in these cubbies and it makes them so easy to find them! Now I just have to remind them to put them back into the cubbies when they get home from school!
*Bonus Idea
If you are looking for one more unconventional way to use an over the door organizer, consider putting one in your bathroom closet! This would be the perfect place to store extra toilet paper rolls, extra boxes of tissues, extra lotion or even extra soap. I have another organizer on order so that I can do this ASAP!
I love an organized home and I love how easy it can be to literally create extra storage space in your home by using over the door organizers!

I used zip ties to fasten an OTD shoe organizer behind the driver seat in our station wagon to hold all the little stuff we use on trips (maps, chargers, hand sanitizer, etc.).

I really like this configuration of organizer! It's not the usual pocket one and it looks so much nicer!

Love these ideas. I have used the clear shoe pockets over door hangers in my office and childrens rooms for years. Great for board pins, binder clips, crayons, scissors, pens etc.
Thanks for the information about the larger ones for washclothes etc...
