I have loved OREO Cookie Balls for a long time and recently I decided to whip up a quick batch of them to enjoy and to share. But this time I wanted to tweak the recipe just a little bit to make them Holiday OREO Cookie Balls. So I came up with this really fun recipe for Candy Cane OREO Cookie Balls! They are so simple to make and really tasty too!
So I headed to my local Walmart and grabbed the three ingredients I need to make OREO Cookie Balls, plus a few other optional ingredients to make them a little festive!
Official OREO Cookie Ball Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pkg (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
- 36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
- 4 pkg. (4 oz. each) semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
Directions:
- MIX cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
- SHAPE into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
- CUSTOMIZE it with your own ingredient additions or decorative skills.
- REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm.
Making OREO cookie balls just like this is simply divine! These are amazingly delicious and are perfect as is. However, I modified mine just a little bit to make these a bit more festive, so here is my recipe. It includes several optional ingredients.
Candy Cane OREO Cookie Ball Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pkg (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
- 26 OREO Cookies, Mint flavored
- 1 pkg white chocolate chips
- 1 pkg red melting candy
- ½ teaspoon Peppermint Extract
- Candy Canes
- Decorator Bags
- White Chocolate or Red Melting Candy
These are so simple to make and my whole family loves them!
First I crushed my OREO cookies using my food processor It only takes a few moments for the OREO's to be finely crushed.
Next I put my OREO crumbs into my KitchenAid along with my cream cheese and my peppermint extract. I mixed this until it was smooth and well combined.
Then I shaped these into 1" balls and put them in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
Then I melted my chocolate. See HERE for all my tips and tricks for melting chocolate for dipping.
Dip the OREO balls into your chocolate and set on a piece of foil or wax paper to set.
This is where the fun customization comes in! You can top these with a bit of crushed candy cane or drizzle a bit of contrasting chocolate on top! (I put melted chocolate into a decorator bag to help drizzle the chocolate onto the cookie balls.)
Have fun and make a variety like I did if you prefer!
These yummy Candy Cane OREO Cookie Balls have a really subtle but delicious candy cane flavor to them! The richness of the original OREO cookie ball is still there, but with a hint of peppermint! It is a perfect way to add a little holiday feel to your cookie balls!

Neglected to state in recipe if Oreo cookies have to be removed from the creamy center. Please advise?
Ashley Phipps
Sorry for any confusion. You will leave the creamy center in the cookies, no need to remove it. Have a fabulous day!
