I'm so happy to be here for my second contributing post at Simply Designing! Last month, I shared with you my wallpaper-topped table. This month I have a wine cork bulletin board.
A few months back, I found several containers filled with wine corks at my local Goodwill store.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them at the time, but I knew inspiration would strike me at some point. When I was at Michael's the other day, they had these gold frames on their clearance rack ... and that is when it struck.
My teenage daughter tends to forget to tell me anytime I get a phone call -- which has lead me missing hair appointments, dentist appointments, PTA meetings, etc. So I decided a bulletin board, right beside the phone, was the solution. I took my frame and spayed it with an ivory spray paint. I then sprayed about a third of the corks the same ivory, I used an aqua color for another third, and the final third I left as-is.
I laid them between two boards on the garage floor so they wouldn't roll around when I sprayed them.
While they were drying I asked my hubby to cut-out a piece of ¼" plywood to fit inside the frame, and then he attached it to the frame for the back. Then I started-in on hot gluing the corks in place.
Lastly, I took these little jewels and hot glued them onto the top of some thumb tacks for a little bling, and then added a copper colored bow.
With a bulletin board like this, there will be no excuse for me to ever miss a message!

I got to this site for another link. I was looking for instructions for the bath mat made out of wine corks. Could someone provide the instructions? Thank you.

I'm about to embark on a cork craft. I plan to paint some of my corks like you did.
I'm curious to know did you choose the Krylon brand spray paint for a reason?
Does spray paint adhere better than a sponge applied paint?
Should I use outdoor vs. indoor?
Thanks for sharing.

Wood glue works far, far better than hot glueing! Those corks will never come off. Even better is to cut them in half with a table saw and glue them on so there is more area to adhere. (You need a guide for the corks on the table saw though!) I have found that hot glueing is not that great for most crafts.
