I recently mentioned (here) that we are landscaping our side yard this summer! Wahoo!! We are working on building an arbor, and then we will build a couple of raised planter boxes for a garden area as well. If you follow me on Instagram or FB you have seen some of the progress and I can't wait to share more with you soon on my blog!
My children (specifically my 6 year old daughter) has been begging for a garden for several years. And we have had so many outdoor projects to do every summer (like this one here) that we haven't been able to create one yet. But a garden area (and landscaped sideyard) was on our must-do list this year! We are so excited to create many fun garden projects this year in our sideyard!
Because we have some building to do before we can actually plant our garden, and my daughter is very anxious to begin planting, I decided to let her begin by planting a few starter seeds to get a jump start on our garden. We will probably primarily plant our garden from small plants, but since the season is still young here in Indiana and we aren't ready to plant yet, creating a few starters is a great way to get my daughter involved and excited about gardening!
We purchased some soil, a few bio-degradable pots and several packets of seeds. (Miracle-Gro soil is one of our favorites!)
I've mentioned before that I am not the best gardener, but this year I am getting down and dirty and will be helping plant (and hopefully keep alive) a garden!
Miracle-Gro has created The Gro Project where people (just like me) can go to start their gardening adventure, no matter how small or big it might be.
I am so proud of my little girl for getting her hands dirty and for wanting to plant these seeds all by herself! She simply amazes me!
And every morning she faithfully remembers to water our plants.
In about a week or so we should start to see our plants begin to grow!
My children are so excited to grow a garden this year and we are looking to Miracle-Gro to help us (ie me) keep our plants healthy and thriving.
Check out this video to learn more about The Gro Project:
After our seeds have grown, and our planter boxes are built, we will transfer our seedlings and watch them grow in our very first garden! And we will definitely take advantage of some of the amazing products out there to help our garden and plants thrive like LiquaFeed All Purpose Plant Food Advance Starter Kit which helps you feed and water your plants and garden all at the same time!
Have you started a garden this year? What is your favorite plant to grow?
