I will just go ahead and admit it.
I have never made playdough.
Never.
My daughter has a nice collection of playdough that I have purchased for her. And why not? At 50 cents or less a container...why make it, right?
But then I was asked to make playdough for my daughter's preschool, and it wasn't nearly as scary or hard to make as I thought it would be! It actually was really really easy!
And my favorite part is that it doesn't make your hands smell all funny like the stuff you buy does.
Maybe I will take to making my own playdough from now on...
Playdough
2 c flour
1 c salt
4 teaspoon cream of tarter
2 c water
food coloring
¼ c vegetable oil
Combine dry ingredients
Add food coloring (if desired) to water
Mix wet and dry inredients well
Cook over low heat in a non-stick pot until it becomes rubbery and playdough-like (Yes. You will just know when it is done.)
Cool and knead
*For Glittery Playdough, add glitter in near the end of your cooking step! It is definitely 4 year old approved playdough!*

I was at a farmer's market recently and one of the booths had homemade playdough with scents. They used essential oils to make some really yummy scents, one was apricot and the other was vanilla lavendar. They then put 5 colors into a cute little clear paint bucket and had adorable decorations on the outside. Such a cute idea for a birthday gift! Thanks for sharing your recipe.
